Homemade Toothpaste

I love this toothpaste! My teeth feel so clean. The baking soda is a natural abrasive and makes for a great tooth scrubber. Oil pulling is also important for dental health.

  • 4 tblsp coconut oil
  • 6 tblsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp Dr. Bronner's liquid soap
  • 1 tsp xylitol
  • 1tsp water
  • about 30 drops essential oils (I use a mix of 15 drop peppermint, 10 orange, 5 tea tree)
I use Bob's Red Mill baking soda. Use a good quality. I use Nutiva coconut oil. You can find my coconut oil here.

This is the almond flavor of Dr. Bronner's liquid soap. I buy a different flavor of the soap every time I buy it. The peppermint makes a great toothpaste. But any of them will work.

It's on my list to learn about essential oils. I did research it at one point and I know this is a good combo for dental health. But you don't have to use this combo. Once I learn more about them, I will probably adjust this essential oil combo.

I just bought this coconut oil a couple hours ago and it is still solid since it was in a cold store. One night in my warm pantry in August in Texas and it will be liquid. I turned on the oven and put the container on top of the stove to melt the coconut oil. You can put the whole mix in a pot and heat it on the stove on low. I don't like having to clean another pot, so I do this. Do not microwave it! You bought cold pressed, pure coconut oil. Don't ruin it with the microwave.

Here are some pictures of me to prove I don't have yellow teeth. For several years before I started using this, I had an exposed root that was super sensitive. I used Sensodyne and had a prescription gel I rubbed on it daily. And it was still sensitive. I started using this and oil pulling, and the sensitivity is gone. The Moose (he's 11 months) & I both use this toothpaste.
