Fresh Milk!

The Moose was born allergic to cow dairy. So since he came home 10 months ago (he's now 11 months old), the whole family has been drinking raw goat's milk. Which I absolutely love and has done wonders for his health. But it's a little pricey ($10 / gallon) and it's a 45 minute round trip to pick up the milk and I do that weekly. So I've been looking for some raw cow's milk for me & Ryan. And we are starting to test The Moose to see if he outgrew his dairy allergy (we think we've healed his gut beautifully & he won't have any problems).

Surprisingly, since I live in Texas, the land of cows, there aren't many dairies near me. And the regulations against selling raw dairy products make it that much more difficult to find. I'm going to keep looking for raw, but in the meantime this is a great substitute.

But I found some low-temp pasteurized milk that I'm super excited about! I picked up some today! I got a pint of cream (making pasta sauce, I'll share later tonight) and a gallon of milk.

I had to have a glass as soon as I got home. I could easily be a vegetarian and not eat meat. But I would have a terrible time being vegan. I love all things dairy!!!!

Oh my goodness! It's so creamy! So much creamier than anything in the grocery store.

I purchased it from Earthwise Gardens (here's their facebook). It's $6.95 / gallon and $3.95 for a pint of cream. They are a great store. They have a garden in town and sell their produce, and they also are a retailer other farms and local food products (coffee, chocolate, olive oil, etc.). A lot of the veggies that I use to make The Moose's baby food is from either Earthwise or Cardo's. I forgot my camera to take pictures of their store to show you. I'll try to remember next time. Here is an external link to the dairy the milk is from (Mill-King).

I briefly spoke to the owner of Earthwise about touring their farm. Hopefully I'll be able to work that out soon and share it with you!

Before I went to Earthwise, I went to The Cupboard (basically across the street), a local health food store, to check out what they had for milk. They had organic milk, but not low-temp. They had 2 brands. One was $7 / gallon (same as what I got) and the other was a $5 half gallon.
