I go on almost daily walks. I really do this just to keep up with my podcasts. Of course, walking is good for me and The Moose gets some fresh air, but don't think I am a speed walker or anything. I just look for loose change and listen to my stories. You will see a theme. I like NPR. Here's what's in my ear buds:
A Way With Words
This is a wordy podcast. It's 2 linguists that talk about language. People will call in with a word or phrase they heard and the linguists will tell them how it originated. One off the top of my head is why we call food "chow." Well apparently, when the British soldiers were in the East for a war (China I think) the Chinese had a meal called chow chow. It sounded similar to what we refer to as Shepard's pie, you know, lots of leftovers just thrown together. So the British brought back the word chow. And now it's a slang word we still use. It's an interesting show. Of course, I never remember anything they say or any of the tidbits, but it's still interesting.
Dave Ramsey
Personal finance. People call in and tell Dave how much money they make and how much debt they have and Dave fixes everything. I find it fascinating.
Planet Money
Financial news. My undergrad degree is math (focus on Calculus) and my masters is finance. I am a math nerd.
Radio Lab
What don't they talk about? Just interesting stories about everything.
Real Time With Bill Mahr
Yes, Real Time is a free podcast! I was super excited when I discovered that.
This American Life
Another podcast about anything and everything.
Wait Wait.....Don't Tell Me
This is my favorite podcast! It's a news quiz show. Hilarious!
Food Integrity Now
Exactly what it sounds like. They focus on non-gmo and a natural diet.
I also listen to some Spanish learning podcasts occasionally. I'm getting really close to being able to speak Spanglish.
