Argan Oil

I love my argan oil! The argan fruit (I've seen it referred to as a nut and as a fruit, but most commonly a fruit) grows on the argan tree in Morocco. The fruit has a peel which has a nut-like hard shell. Lots of work to get to the magical fruit.

I used to use Now. Find it here. It's not cold pressed. So I started using Life-Flo. It is cold pressed. Find it here.

The goats in Morocco love the argan fruit. Apparently they climb the tree to eat them. I bet these goats have a beautiful, shiny coat of hair!!

I use argan oil in my hair and as a face moisturizer. It is non-greasy, dry oil. I do use it as a day time moisturizer on my face, but I do wipe off the excess. I put it on my face, let it sit for as long as I have that morning (5 minutes, 2 hours, whatever), then I wipe off the excess with a tissue.

After I put it on my face, I will rub my fingers through my hair. Just the excess oil leftover after putting it on my face. I don't go back for more product. When I fix my hair, if I have flyaways, I will get a little bit of oil on my fingers and run it through my hair. But that 's rare. The tiny bit I run through my hair after I moisturize my face is enough to keep it mostly stray free. I do no poo (wash my hair with baking soda and condition with apple cider vinegar) and only wash every 3-4 days. So by the 3rd or 4th day, I usually skip the finger run through since my hair has enough argan oil by then.

Find out more about my skincare here (that's my whole skincare routine, from makeup remover to toner to cleanser). Here's the Amazon link to what I use, $12 for 2 oz! I usually buy the 4 oz bottle and it lasts me 3-4 months. Although, I don't think that brand is cold pressed. Cold pressed is important for all oils. The heat comprimises a lot of the health benefits. So next time I purchase it, I may test another brand that is cold pressed and report back if I notice a difference.

UPDATE: I now use Lifeflo. Find it here. It is cold pressed and goes on much smoother! After I apply it, I don't have to wipe off excess before putting on makeup. It's less oily and my skin soaks it all up and is super soft & smooth!

Benefits

Here are the reasons you should use argan oil:
  • It's full of vitamin E & antioxidants, which is awesome for treating and preventing acne, anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, anti-inflammatory, and reduces under eye circles.
  • Great to treat dry scalp. So if you have a dry scalp, rub in your scalp and leave overnight (unless you add A LOT, you'll be fine to sleep in it without leaving a grease stain but you can wear a shower cap if you want).
  • It's great for your nails and cuticles. Prevents dry, brittle nails.
  • It's full of lots of good fats. I love my good fats. I eat a high-good-fat diet and rub lots of good fats all over my skin (coconut oil is my favorite! Find it here.). This will keep your skin nice and elastic, preventing aging and wrinkles.
  • In Morocco, it's used to treat diabetes! (I am not an expert on this at all and know absolutely nothing about it. I'm just throwing this out there as an option for you. So do your research if you or someone you know has diabetes.)
