Spice Shopping Spree

A local health food store (The Cupboard in Denton, TX) is having their customer appreciation event this weekend. So the whole store is 20% off. I think they do this a couple times a year (maybe just once, I'm not sure). I was way over due to go pick up my spices from their bulk foods section (see more on this post). So what better time than now!

Herbs and spices are so good for you. If you don't use them when you cook, you should. Each one does something unique for your immune system, digestion, & health. (It's still on my list to detail that for you. Work is crazy right now, but I will get to it soon!)

Today I got:

  • Bay Leaves
  • Garlic Powder
  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Basil
  • Cumin
  • Nutmeg
  • Thyme
  • Red Chili Peppers
  • Oregano
  • 4 pounds of pinto beans (see my slow cooked beans here)
  • Organic Toaster Pastries (like Pop Tarts; we eat a lot of clean, local food; But The Moose still gets fun snacks!)
  • A brownie from their bakery
The brownie is for me! I love their yummy, chewy, fudgey brownies. The ingrdients are eggs, chocolate chips, butter, flour, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, almonds, and salt. Perfection!

All of that was $24.32. The spices were $10.71 of that. Buying spices in bulk is the best way to go. A lot less expensive and fresher. Instead of buying a jar of something you use once a month that goes bad before you use it all, you can buy just a tbsp or 2 of it at a time.
