A Note About Fat

A note about fat. I like it. I eat a very high fat diet. My goal is to eat as much natural and local food as possible. Fat is natural. At least the good kind of fat is. I eat tons of coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, avocados, full fat milk (goat and cow milk; as much of it raw and local as I can find), full fat cheese, yogurt, ice cream and other dairy products, full fat red meats (all local, grass-fed, free range, from happy animals). And to be honest, the more fat I eat, the thinner I am.

You will see a lot of my recipes have lots of fat in them. That will continue. You see I use full fat mozzarella on my pizza, heavy cream in Cajun pasta, I eat lots of eggs (farm fresh, of course), I am not afraid of eating sugar and sweets. I eat lots of nuts. I always think its odd when people say something like, "I love almonds. But I only let myself eat a handful. Otherwise, I just won't stop." Well, don't stop! Eat the whole bag if you want! It's good for you!

Many people on diets have asked me how many calories I eat. Or how much fat I eat. I don't know. I have absolutely no clue. I haven't looked at the numbers on a food label in many years. I only look at the ingredients. And then the person asking will say something like, "Well, that won't work for me because I'm trying to lose weight." Which is odd to me. You see someone that is successful at what you want to be successful at, and you don't follow their lead (I don't mean to sound conceited, I am a thin person). I always want to ask, "And how's that low fat diet working out for you?" Because usually, it's not. People on low fat diets are always reading labels, always eating low fat products, always weighing themselves, and always saying it's not working. Wanna know why? Because it doesn't work. Your body needs good, natural, healthy fats. And lots of it.

I am also writing this because so many people see my recipes or hear what I eat and then say, "I thought you eat healthy." I do! I eat very natural and healthy! Anything labeled "diet", "low fat", "low calorie", etc. is NOT  healthy! Those items are full of chemicals. Good, healthy, natural fat is so much better for you than synthetic chemicals.

If I go more than about 3 days without eating good fats, then I start having serious cravings. And unfortunately, they usually at least try to take me to a fast food drive-through. I rarely cave because I know I just need to get home and eat a few spoonfuls of coconut oil or a handful of nuts or something. So eat your good fats, it will curb your cravings. Seriously.

I'm including some recent pictures of me (all taken within the last 3 months). Just to prove to you that the full fat diet works. Yes, I do have good genes. But there was a few years in college where I was about 20-30 pounds more than I weigh now, and 2-3 pants sizes larger. That can be attributed to beer and Taco Bell. So it is possible for me to gain weight on an unhealthy diet. This natural, full fat diet, however, keeps me at my naturally healthy weight.

The Moose loves his fat. He attacks me when he sees the coconut oil jar. The Moose has been 70-80% in height and 40-50% in weight at every checkup. Which means he is not fat. People will comment that he will be obese from all the fat I give him. Maybe at the next checkup....

I am in by no way endorsing a high fat diet for the sake of high fat. I am endorsing natural fat. Fat that exists in nature; like full fat dairy (raw of course) and nuts and avocados and meat from happy animals. Just try it.
